    Tax Exemption are determined by the status of the occupant on January 1 of each tax year. To apply for a Homestead Exemption, a homeowner must be occupying the property as of January 1st of the tax year in which the exemption is granted.

    You Appraisal District will automatically send a form to all new property owners around the end of January. You will have till April 30th of that same year to file this exemption.     Dallas-area home listings fall substantially

    North Texas homebuyers who are hoping to find a huge supply of houses for sale may be in for a surprise.

    While many markets in Florida and the West are suffering from a surplus of for-sale signs, the number of houses available in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has fallen substantially in the last year.

    The supply of pre-owned homes for sale is down almost 17 percent from this time last year and has fallen by a quarter from the summer of 2007.

  • Dallas home prices showing gains, fueling optimism

    The outlook for Dallas home prices was brighter in two indexes released Tuesday.

    They were down 2.2 percent in June from a year earlier but rose 2.7 percent from May to June to the highest level since last September, according to the closely watched Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller Index. It was the fourth consecutive month of gains in the Dallas index price, S&P said Tuesday.

    And the Federal Housing Finance Agency said that Dallas-area prices were up slightly in the second quarter.

    S.V. Hardy LP bought a 15,900-square-foot industrial building at 2303 Shorecrest Drive in Dallas from Hartnack Investments LLC. Chris Armstrong of Henry S. Miller Brokerage LLC arranged the sale with Jason Moser of Stream Realty.

    The Moore Law Firm purchased a 3,000-square-foot office building at 13349 N. Central Expressway in Dallas. Dona Timm of Prudential negotiated the sale with Matt Anding of Henry S. Miller.

    A Canadian firm bought a 288-unit apartment complex at 750 E. Mid-Cities Blvd. in Euless from Fountainwood Associates LP. Dirk Goris of CB Richard Ellis negotiated the sale.

    Dr. Jennifer Patterson purchased 4,051 square feet of commercial space at 6842 Lebanon Road in Frisco for her optometry practice. Mark Pittman arranged the sale with broker Mary Martin.
